difference between blower and compresser

22 Aug.,2023

As is pertains to automotive technology there's not much difference. One could define a compressor to include turbochargers, however blowers can be considered compressors as well. Really you don't use compressors unless your talking Jet engines. What is the question for anyways??

Ravi:

As GearHead noted in Automotive applications there is really not much difference between blowers and compressors. Many times the terms are used interchangeably.

In more general terms all blowers are compressors. They reduce the volume of a gas by increasing its pressure [1], but not all compressors are blowers.

1. Positive Displacement Reciprocating Compressors are not Blowers.

2. Blowers generally refer to dynamic and positive displacement rotary compressors where the maximum compression ratio on the order of 2-3 though this is not absolute.

3. Blowers are very similar to fans in that there primary function is to move air not compress air.
