What size ski should I use?

The size or length of the ski you should be using depends upon a few things: the skier’s weight, the speed at which you will be skiing, and the level at which you ski. As your speed increases and your weight decreases, the ski’s length shortens. Alternatively, as your weigh increases or if you ski at slower speeds, a longer ski is best. Once you’re in the slalom course, if the ski is too long it will be hard to slow down and turn properly. If the ski is too short, this will hinder your speed across the wakes, or you may even sink in the turns.

Beginner skiers should typically ski at a slower speed. They will ski less aggressively and will want a smooth and stable ride. Slalom skis with a softer flex will be less responsive but more forgiving for the beginning skier. A slightly larger ski will help with deep-water starts and make starting easier for the beginner. As a beginner, it’s best to ski at slower speeds with a slightly larger ski that’s forgiving and stable, such as the KD Redline.

Intermediate skiers who ski faster and more aggressively should use a moderately stiff and responsive ski, such as the KD Krypton, that’s appropriate for their weight.
