First Million-Kilowatt Coal-fired Unit of the “Xinjiang Power to Chongqing” Project Goes into Operation

This project is a key part of the national “Shagehuang” large-base power transmission corridor for new energy — specifically, the 4.1 GW Xinjiang Zhongneng Tianshan Northern Foothills Gobi New Energy Project. It also serves as a core supporting facility under the “Xinjiang Power to Chongqing” initiative, a major power project within China’s 14th Five-Year Plan, and a crucial power source for Xinjiang’s third ultra-high voltage (UHV) DC transmission channel.

As the first 1000 MW coal-fired unit of the “Xinjiang Power to Chongqing” project, it comprises two 1000 MW ultra-supercritical indirect air-cooled coal units equipped with high-efficiency dust removal, desulfurization, and denitrification systems to ensure ultra-low emissions around the clock.

Once fully operational, the project is expected to generate about 9.4 billion kWh annually. It will provide stable and reliable power support for the initiative, promote efficient utilization of Xinjiang’s clean energy, and help convert the region’s energy advantages into economic gains. Furthermore, it will significantly ease Chongqing’s power shortage, ensure a stable electricity supply during peak summer demand, optimize national power resource allocation, and offer strong energy support for the development of the Chengdu-Chongqing dual-city economic zone.
