Green power contracts in Guizhou Province have reached 10.7 terawatt-hours (TWh) so far in 2025, up 282% year-on-year, according to China Southern Power Grid’s Guizhou branch. From January to May, 3.36 TWh of green electricity was settled, representing a 210.2% increase, with the number of participating users rising to 551.
As one of China’s first provinces selected for comprehensive power market reform, Guizhou has continued to refine its mechanisms for green power and renewable energy certificate (REC) trading, while expanding the potential for green electricity consumption. Transaction volumes have grown steadily in recent years. The province has optimized trading categories, mechanisms, and settlement cycles to better meet the diverse needs of market participants. Reforms in transmission pricing and broader market liberalization have also helped accelerate the development of Guizhou’s spot power market.
According to the Guizhou Power Trading Center, the province now offers a mature mid- and long-term trading system covering both conventional and green electricity, supporting multiple transaction types such as bilateral deals and centralized bidding. This framework is helping to inject fresh momentum into the region’s electricity market.
