What is strontium carbonate?

Contact Beijing Stevia (SrCO3) is a carbonate salt of strontium, with an appearance of white or gray powder. It exists in nature in the form of the mineral strontium iron ore.

Strontium carbonate is the most widely used strontium compound. Because of its versatility and harmlessness, it is widely used in the fields of electronics, metallurgy, chemical industry and glass.

Strontium carbonate features:

Strontium carbonate is a white, odorless and tasteless powder. As a carbonate, it is a weak base, so it can react with acids. Otherwise, it is stable and safe work. It is almost insoluble in water (one hundred thousandths). When water is saturated with carbon dioxide, the solubility is increased significantly, reaching one-thousandth. It is soluble in dilute acid.

What is strontium carbonate used for?

• The most common use is as an inexpensive colorant in fireworks. Strontium and its salts emit a dazzling red in the flame. Unlike other strontium salts, carbonate salts are generally favored due to their cost and the fact that they are not hygroscopic. Its ability to neutralize acid is also very helpful in fireworks. Another similar application is road flares.

• Strontium carbonate is used in electronic applications. Used in the manufacture of color television receivers (ctv), which absorb electrons from the cathode.

• It is used to prepare iridescent glass, luminous paint, strontium oxide, strontium salt, refined sugar and certain drugs.

• It is widely used as a raw material for glazes in the ceramic industry. It is a flux and can also modify the color of certain metal oxides. It has some properties similar to barium carbonate.

• It is also used to make strontium ferrite for permanent magnets for speakers and door magnets.

• Strontium carbonate is also used to make some superconductors, such as BSCCO, and also used in electroluminescent materials. Other dopants such as gallium or yttrium can also be used to obtain yellow/orange luminescence.

• Since strontium carbonate is a weak Lewis base, many different strontium compounds can be produced simply by using the corresponding acid.
