China Energy Zhunneng Group has received official approval from the Ministry of Natural Resources for land use extensions at its Heidaigou and Haerwusu open-pit coal mines. The approval marks a key milestone in enhancing the energy supply system in Zhungeer Banner, Inner Mongolia. The total approved land area amounts to 1,342 hectares, with 798 hectares allocated for the sixth-phase expansion of Heidaigou Mine and 544 hectares for the fifth-phase development of Haerwusu Mine.
Zhungeer Banner is a critical national energy base and one of China’s top coal-producing regions, playing a pivotal role in ensuring energy security. Situated in the core of the Zhungeer Coalfield, both Heidaigou and Haerwusu are cornerstone mines for national energy supply. Their combined approved annual capacity exceeds 69 million tonnes, accounting for over 40% of the region’s total coal output. They are also essential hubs for the country’s "West-to-East" and "North-to-South" coal transport strategies.
The newly approved land will meet production needs for the next five years, supporting the continued development of the Zhungeer mining area. This approval is expected to help ensure stable energy supply, optimize the coal industry structure, and contribute to local economic and social development. It also injects strong momentum into Inner Mongolia’s drive to become a key national hub for energy and strategic resources.
